Renewable power plants produced 39.5% of Spain’s power in the first eight months of 2015, with wind power having the largest share at 19.6%, said grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE).
Hydropower had a 12.3% share in the country’s mix in January-August. The remaining 7.6% were spread between solar energy and thermal renewables.
In August alone renewables were responsible for 31.7% of Spain’s power, with wind’s share being 15.2%. Wind farms in the country generated 3,284 GWh for the month, marking a 13.7% year-over-year rise.
