GWEC and OLADE team-up to drive the energy transition in Latin America

The Global Wind Energy Council and OLADE, the Latin American Energy Association, have announced they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive the energy transition in Latin America. Both organisations have the objective of promoting energy security and the energy transition in Latin America, and this MoU will establish the basis for cooperation for the design and implementation of projects as well as reports and roadmaps for renewable energy development in the region.

Wind industry calls for additional 7 GW of wind energy to be installed in Thailand by 2037

Today, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Thailand Wind Energy Association (ThaiWEA) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) joined forces in Bangkok to hold the first Thailand Wind Energy Roundtable. This roundtable discussion brought together Thai government stakeholders and industry players active in the region to constructively discuss how to strengthen onshore wind development in Thailand. With 1.5 GW of onshore wind already installed, the country has a technical potential of 13-17 GW which could be developed by increasing target ambitions and support schemes for wind energy in Thailand’s Power Development Plan (PDP).

Wind industry commits to greater gender diversity at industry events

On the occasion of COP25’s Gender Day, 14 wind energy associations representing the industry across the world have committed to uphold best practices for gender diversity at their future industry events. Led by the Women in Wind Global Leadership Program, a joint initiative between the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET), a guide for ‘Best Practices for Gender Diversity at Industry Events’ was published today to support member associations in mainstreaming gender diversity across their events.

GWEC and GWO join forces to power the global wind energy workforce

Today the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) have signed a partnership agreement to ensure that that the wind industry creates sufficient levels of skills, safety and other essential training to power wind energy development and the huge increase of jobs in the sector that the global energy transition requires.

GWEC and ECCT to hold second annual Global Offshore Wind Summit – Taiwan in April 2020

Following the success of last year’s event, the second annual Global Offshore Wind Summit – Taiwan will take place on 21-23 April 2020 in Taipei. Organised by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan – Low Carbon Initiative (ECCT-LCI), this official industry event will be co-organised by the Taiwan International Ports Corporation and endorsed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Wind industry to invest $1.8bn in Colombia in next three years following successful tender
