From the first hours after the earthquake wind energy companies have been helping with cleaning and recovery as well as with the loan of machinery to remove debris.
The wind companies affiliated to the Mexican Wind Energy Association (AMDEE) with operations in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec are working to restore normal operations.
Wind farms in the region, in coordination with the federal, state and local governments, have come together to deal with the emergency in the region that houses more than 60% of the country's wind capacity.
Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, september12 2017.- The quake registered on September 7 affected the operations of wind farms located in this region and part of the Mexican Wind Energy Association (AMDEE). Nevertheless, it hasn´t prevented them from joining the work of helping and caring for the victims.
The AMDEE associates deeply regret the situation in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and, in agreement with the Federal and State government, established as a priority to contribute with the transportation of water, food and basic needs, as well as providing personnel and machinery for the removal of debris and the first reconstruction works, including support for the recovery in the supply of water and electricity.
In addition, wind farm personnel are working to restore normal conditions and await the instructions of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and the Energy Control Center (CENACE) to restart the electric power injection through of the national electricity grid.
"We sympathize with our employees and the people of Oaxaca. This earthquake has meant great personal and material losses," said AMDEE president Leopoldo Rodríguez.
He emphasized that wind farms were not exempt from damage, because although the parks, their operations and sites do not report wind turbine drops, it did affect electrical infrastructure and a comprehensive review is carried out to restore power generation as soon as possible.
"We are observant to the needs of the population, authorities, and employees, seeking to respond to what the Isthmus requires. We have started with the establishment of collection centers, delivery of food and provisions and with medical or psychological attention. All of our associates are firmly committed to contribute significantly to rebuild the region of the wind, "said Leopoldo Rodríguez.
