About the Webcast

GWEC and RE100, an initiative led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP, are organising a webcast series on “Corporates in the Global Energy Transition” throughout 2020. This series examines how corporate sourcing of renewable energy in emerging wind/solar markets is transforming energy systems around the world. The webcasts are conducted in partnership with Baker McKenzie and Global Solar Council (GSC), and focus on four high-impact markets or regions: India, Taiwan, Japan and South East Asia/Australia.

The Japan edition will be held on 26 October 2020, beginning with a webcast highlighting the opportunities and challenges for corporate procurement of renewable energy in Japan. International law firm Baker McKenzie will explain the legal and regulatory frameworks supporting the corporate market in Japan, including potential barriers for market actors. Fujifilm will discuss the on-the-ground reality from the corporate demand-side perspective, unpacking the experience, gaps and upsides for procurement of renewables.

Following the webcast, there will be an opportunity for free 1-on-1 networking bringing together corporate renewable energy buyers, sellers and advisers

This webcast will have both Japanese and English audio streams, hosted on Zoom. Networking sessions will be offered in both Japanese and English, also hosted on Zoom.

The Japan edition of this webcast series will run over 1.5 hours and include:

Speakers

Ean Mac Pherson
Partner, Baker McKenzie (Tokyo)

Ean’s practice focuses on conventional and renewable energy power projects (including offshore wind, solar and biomass), resources acquisitions, joint ventures, major projects and corporate work. He works closely with Japanese companies investing in power projects outside Japan. With the recent growth in offshore wind projects in Japan, Ean is also advising a number of leading global offshore wind developers on their entry into the Japanese market.

Naoaki Eguchi
Partner, Baker McKenzie (Tokyo)

Nick’s practice focuses on project finance, renewable energy, infrastructure. Nick worked on more than 3,000 MW solar, 300 MW wind, 500 MW biomass and 10 MW geothermal transactions. Nick is working on Round 1 offshore wind auction in Japan for an European sponsor and a port offshore wind project for a Japanese sponsors. He is a member of the Japan Wind Power Association since 2006 and the leader of Offshore Wind Finance Task Force.

Aleksandra Klassen
Senior Impact Manager, RE100

Aleksandra oversees the international operations of the global corporate renewable energy initiative RE100. She first got involved in the energy industry through publishing market intelligence reports in seven countries across South East Asia, Northern Europe and the Middle East. At the UK Solar Trade Association, she worked across policy, business development and strategy. 

Joyce Lee
Policy and Operations Director, Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)

Joyce is Policy and Operations Director at GWEC, managing political risk and public policy analysis for the Market Intelligence team and leading the Women in Wind Global Leadership Program. Joyce is experienced in political risk analysis and corporate investigations in Europe, East Asia and Southeast Asia.  Prior to joining GWEC, Joyce was a senior consultant at the Global Risk and Investigations Practice (GRIP) of FTI Consulting. She previously worked at Aegis Advisory in London and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Beijing.

Yusuke Matsuo
Director of the Secretariat, Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership (JCLP)

Yusuke Matsuo is Director of Business Task Force, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES). He leads the work at IGES to support corporates and policy actions with his expertise on climate change and business actions. He is also the director of the secretariat of Japan Climate Leaders’ Partnership (JCLP), an independent business coalition for which IGES provides secretariat role. He has been leading the team to support the business group which convenes more than 110 companies from across various sectors in Japan to jointly drive corporate ambition for the transition to a net zeroeconomy. Previously, he was a senior analyst at the Good Bankers Co., Ltd, an investment advisory firm, and have worked at Sanwa Bank (current MUFG Bank). 

Yasufumi Nakai
General Manager, Ecology and Quality Management Group, ESG Division, FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation

Yasufumi Nakai is General Manager, Ecology and Quality Management Group, ESG Division, FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation. He is currently leading the company-wide EHS activities including addressing climate change, resource recycling and chemical management. He started his career in Fujifilm as a chemist and was engaged in development of photographic materials and chemicals.
