GWEC has been working on the Facilitating Offshore Wind in India (FOWIND) Project for the past three years. This year we will install India's first offshore wind research platform off the coast of Gujarat. The platform is being developed jointly by FOWIND, the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE). The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) is providing technical support for the research platform. We expect FOWIND's offshore LiDAR will be commissioned by end of January 2017.
GWEC has been working on the Facilitating Offshore Wind in India (FOWIND) Project for the past three years.
Last year we launched the “Supply Chain, Port Infrastructure and LogisticsStudy” for offshore wind development in the states of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu in India. This study is a significant step forward in preparing a roadmap for offshore wind power in India by the GWEC led FOWIND consortium.
The key supply chain elements under the offshore wind sector are assessed along with a preliminary evaluation of companies entering the offshore wind sector. As part of the supply chain assessment, port infrastructure and logistics are reviewed, identifying key component specifications, vessel requirements and installation strategies. The study provides the first of its kind overview of existing port infrastructure in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu and discusses various improvements required for manufacturing, installation and OEM for offshore wind development in the country.
FOWIND also held multi-stakeholder workshops in India aimed at improving the buy-in for the technology amongst the state-owned utilities.

Further FOWIND saw ReNew Power Ventures Private Ltd. join as an industry partner and also as our latest C0 member. ReNew Power is a leading clean energy IPP with more than 3 GW of commissioned and under-construction clean energy assets, and a pipeline of close to 1.8 GW wind, solar and distributed solar projects in India.
