Steve Sawyer has a new year message of hope and co-operation.
The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) secretary-general is fresh from the Lima UN climate summit, where he and Recharge columnist Jeremy Leggett addressed negotiators on renewables’ role in fighting global warming. In stating the wind-energy case, Sawyer also had kind words to say about solar.
In an interview with Recharge, he returns to the theme that the two technologies can work in harness. “I think wind and solar are in some ways in competition,” he acknowledges. “But what I see among my GWEC member companies is an increasing number of them doing both wind and solar — sometimes in different places and sometimes in the same market.
