Women in Wind Global Leadership Program announces 2020 Participants and Global Ambassadors to accelerate greater gender diversity in the wind sector

Today on International Women’s Day, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET) have announced this year’s participants for their jointly organised Women in Wind Global Leadership Program. After receiving over 110 highly competitive applications for this year’s program, GWEC and GWNET have chosen 15 participants from 13 countries in emerging markets across the world.

GWEC and OLADE team-up to drive the energy transition in Latin America

The Global Wind Energy Council and OLADE, the Latin American Energy Association, have announced they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive the energy transition in Latin America. Both organisations have the objective of promoting energy security and the energy transition in Latin America, and this MoU will establish the basis for cooperation for the design and implementation of projects as well as reports and roadmaps for renewable energy development in the region.

Wind industry calls for additional 7 GW of wind energy to be installed in Thailand by 2037

Today, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Thailand Wind Energy Association (ThaiWEA) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) joined forces in Bangkok to hold the first Thailand Wind Energy Roundtable. This roundtable discussion brought together Thai government stakeholders and industry players active in the region to constructively discuss how to strengthen onshore wind development in Thailand. With 1.5 GW of onshore wind already installed, the country has a technical potential of 13-17 GW which could be developed by increasing target ambitions and support schemes for wind energy in Thailand’s Power Development Plan (PDP).
