Spotlight on Indian offshore

reNews

The Global Wind Energy Council's (GWEC's) Fowind consortium is progressing with its plans to carry out offshore wind feasibility studies in the Indian states of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

In a new report – ‘Grid Integration Study for Offshore Wind Farm Development in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu’ – Fowind assesses what is needed to ensure grid integration of offshore wind, along with a preliminary evaluation of existing grid infrastructure across the two states.

The DNV GL-led report will form the basis for the upcoming offshore wind feasibility assessments being conducted by Fowind.

Fowind expects to complete a preliminary roadmap for offshore wind development in India in 2018.

GWEC secretary general Steve Sawyer said: “Offshore wind has taken dramatic steps forward in the past two years, particularly the major established market in Europe where tender prices have dropped by more than 50% in the last 18 months.”
