Today on International Women’s Day, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET) have announced this year’s participants for their jointly organised Women in Wind Global Leadership Program. The Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) have published a joint report Competitive Processes for Financing Renewable Energy Projects which found that over 80% of current renewable energy capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean has been driven by public tenders and auctions.
Today the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA) have announced that they have formed a joint Japan Offshore Wind Task Force to drive offshore wind growth in Japan. As of December 2019, Japan has 65.6MW of offshore wind capacity, including five floating turbines totalling 19MW. However, the full scale of Japan’s offshore wind potential has yet to be unlocked due to regulatory and industrial bottlenecks, both of which this Task Force aims to address.
Francis Jayasurya, an experienced professional in the India’s wind energy sector, has joined the GWEC team as India Director to support the organisation’s activities in driving forward India’s wind energy market.
The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) is pleased to welcome Mingyang Smart Energy Group as its latest board level member. Mingyang is one of the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturers and clean energy integrated solution providers with over 17GW of wind energy capacity installed globally as of 2018.
