This week saw Ben Backwell, CEO of GWEC attend the latest IRENA Coalition for Action strategy meeting. Ben is joining the Steering Committee and will be working with organisations across the energy system to advance the uptake of renewables, discuss industry trends and share knowledge alongside best practice.

Karin Ohlenforst has agreed to join GWEC as its new Director of Market Intelligence and will start in the role on 1 December 2018. Karin will develop GWEC’s newly formed Market Intelligence unit, which will support GWEC’s policy and stakeholder engagement world-wide and create proprietary insight for GWEC’s members.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), with support from GWNET and REN21, is undertaking a global Gender and Renewable Energy survey. The objective of the survey is to gather quantitative and qualitative insights on the current status of women’s participation in the renewable energy sector, existing challenges and potential solutions to improve gender diversity.

innogy SE, Shell and Stiesdal Offshore Technologies A/S (SOT) have signed an investment and cooperation agreement today committing the partners to build a demonstration project using SOT’s ‘TetraSpar’ floating foundation concept. Its modular layout consists of a tubular steel main structure with a suspended keel.

The Global Wind Energy Council announced on Wednesday that it would form a new Offshore Wind Taskforce dedicated to accelerating the development of offshore wind technology in non-European markets such as Asia and North America.
