A new revised and expanded edition of Wind Power: the Struggle for a New Global Industry will be published by Routledge on 22 November. The book has been written by veteran Wind Industry commentator and Managing Director at FTI Consulting Ben Backwell, with a foreword by GWEC General Secretary Steve Sawyer, and features interviews with many of the wind industry’s leading companies and experts.
Since the first edition of wind power was published in 2015, Ben’s book has become the definitive account of one of the world’s fastest growing industries. In the second edition, he looks at how technology disruption and consolidation has transformed the industry and lowered wind power costs, making it competitive with fossil fuels without subsidy around the world.
“Since I wrote the first edition of the book, the wind industry has reached two hugely significant tipping points,” says Backwell.” Firstly, long awaited consolidation among turbine manufacturers has finally taken place, with mega mergers such as Siemens-Gamesa, GE-Alstom and Nordex-Acciona Windpower. Secondly, and even more significantly, wind energy is now taking on fossil fuels on price alone and winning in markets around the world, setting up the industry for a new phase of growth.”
A launch event for the book will take place at FTI Consulting’s London offices on 30 November, featuring Bloomberg News Correspondent Anna Hirtenstein, who will discuss with Ben some of the key themes of the book.
