New book charts wind’s ‘wild ride’

Recharge News

A major new book on the wind sector charts its growth from its earliest days in the 1970s to the huge global industry it has become – as well as addressing key questions about its future.

In Wind Power: The Struggle for Control of a New Industry author Ben Backwell  – editor in chief of Recharge and one of the renewable energy sector’s leading  journalists  – sets out to offer a unique insight into one of the world’s most dynamic markets.

“I wanted explain how this very exciting industry has grown into this major new industrial sector over the last 10 years, and why it has happened so fast,” he said.

“For example, there’s an interesting moment where Danish turbines come together with the American wind boom of the 1980s, and that’s what really kicks the whole thing off.”

From then on wards it has been a “wild ride” for wind, according to Backwell, and especially for the key players that have shaped the sector.
