About João

João Esteves is a power system engineer with nearly 10 years of experience across various sectors of the energy industry. He began his career as a researcher and project leader at the research center hold by the Transmission System Operator, R&D Nester. In this role, he was responsible for national solar forecasts and led projects in diverse areas, including power system simulations, energy storage, and electricity markets.

Later, João became the Innovation Project Manager at E-Redes, the Portuguese Distribution System Operator, part of the EDP group. In this role, he lead grid modernization efforts, integrating advanced technologies, and collaborated with start-ups within the EDP group’s innovation ecosystem.

Currently, João leads grid-related initiatives at the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Green Grids Initiative (GGI), where he plays a pivotal role in shaping global grid strategies for the energy transition.
