Kick-Off Webinar: Women in Wind Global Leadership Program Class of 2023 Meets for the First Time

On Tuesday 18th April, the Women in Wind Global Leadership Program class of 2023 met for the first time, and the excitement is palpable. Organized by the Global Wind Energy Council and Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition, the program is aimed at providing a multidimensional training and mentoring program for women working in the wind energy sector.

Here’s a quick summary of the program:

  • The program aims to prepare the next generation of women leaders in wind by providing concrete career goals, road-mapping, and network-building opportunities.
  • Programming includes knowledge-transfer webinars, inspiring change framework, and networking sessions to facilitate innovation and boost personal confidence.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to learn from leading female domain experts, acquire industry-specific knowledge, and build communication skills.

During the first meeting which was held virtually, participants had the opportunity to discuss various topics, including the program’s objectives, programming, and expectations. With a duration of April 2023 – January 2024, participants will engage in bilateral mentoring interactions, a learning and development curriculum, a potential study tour and conference in Europe, an achievement ceremony, and an online storytelling campaign.

The program’s knowledge-transfer webinars, which are scheduled to run from June to December 2023, will provide participants with insights into offshore wind, project financing and risk management, negotiation and earning power, permitting and environmental impact, regional market trends, and global opportunities/challenges.

The inspiring change framework, on the other hand, is a voluntary and personalized initiative aimed at achieving small-scale diversity-positive step changes within the sector. Participants will have the opportunity to share their progress and receive encouragement to drive meaningful, positive change.

Finally, the networking sessions will provide participants with the opportunity to get to know each other and network within the Women in Wind space. These sessions, which are not recorded, will be held from May to December 2023 and will include one-on-one sessions with the WiW team, Asia, Africa, and Latin America regional networking sessions, and mentor and mentee networking sessions.

We encourage you to stay tuned and keep up with the Women in Wind Global Leadership Program as we empower women in the wind sector, facilitate innovation, and foster a sustainable energy transition and climate action in line with SDGs 5 and 7.
