Overview
India is a leading wind power market today. Wind power must play a key role in fuelling India’s growing economy, by delivering substantial amounts of clean and indigenous electricity.
According to the 3rd edition of ‘India Wind Energy Outlook’ published jointly by WISE, IWTMA and GWEC, 89 GW of wind power could be installed in Indian by 2020, up from almost18 GW by the August of 2012. This would attract around $16.5 billion of annual investment to the sector, and create 179,000 ‘green collar’ jobs in manufacturing, project development, installation, operation, maintenance, consulting etc. At the same time, it would save 131 million tons of CO2 every year. By 2030, the installed capacity could reach as much as 191 GW.
