India globally ranks fourth in onshore wind capacity while an offshore wind market is yet to be created. The Global Wind Energy Council is convening the launch event for its flagship “India Wind Energy Market Outlook 2023-2027”, jointly developed by GWEC and MEC+, on 24 August 2023 in New Delhi.

The launch event is expected to bring together senior representatives of the government, wind industry, and the renewable energy sector who would delve into the identification of high-level opportunities for strengthening India’s wind manufacturing sector. 

India is a hub for wind manufacturing and has an existing annual capacity of 10-12 GW. Due to a slowdown in the domestic market in the last few years, this capacity has remained under-utilized. This is going to change as the domestic market is expected to see an increase in tender volumes. Also, the country has an opportunity to translate the projected global supply chain crunch to its advantage by boosting manufacturing capacity in the country.
