GWEC presents supply chain study for Indian offshore wind

The Facilitating Offshore Wind in India (FOWIND) consortium released a new supply chain study that reveals what is already available and what needs to be upgraded or started from the beginning.

The key supply chain elements of the offshore wind industry are assessed as part of the study and there is also a preliminary evaluation of companies entering the offshore wind sector.

For wind turbines, for example, the study says that leading OEM suppliers might consider investing in an offshore wind base in India if a sufficient market develops. Currently, many major OEM’s operating in India have multi-megawatt offshore turbine platforms, including MHI Vestas; Adwen, the offshore wind joint venture between Gamesa (BME:GAM) and Areva (EPA:AREVA); and General Electric (NYSE:GE), which acquired Alstom’s offshore wind business. Also, Suzlon Energy (BOM:532667) has rights to license and build the Senvion 6.XM series machine, says the document.
