"As chairman I will focus on strengthening the role of GWEC in new and emerging markets and help sustain the positive momentum surrounding GWEC after the adoption of the new market-making strategy, and the many new members that have joined GWEC recently," Dyrholm said.
Dyrholm, who holds a masters degree in political science and Chinese politics, succeeds Klaus Rave.
"Klaus was one of the early pioneers of the global wind industry whose invaluable knowledge and dedication will bear fruit for years to come, and is deeply appreciated throughout the industry," GWEC secretary general Steve Sawyer said.
"However, I'm excited to welcome Morten who I've known for nearly a decade and look forward to working with him to bring GWEC to the next level."
GWEC chose Dyrholm during a board meeting at the American Wind Energy Association's (AWEA's) WindPower 2016 event in New Orleans this week.
