About the Event
The Global Offshore Wind Summit (GOWS) is a series of international events (lectures and exhibitions) among wind power industry held by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). In Asia, these events focus especially on the theme of offshore wind power generation. Through these events, GWEC and various wind power industry associations in the host country provide significant insights into the development of offshore wind power in Asia and support the development of new markets for the industry. In Japan, the first GOWS-J was held on 7-8 October 2021, at the Kitakyushu International Convention Center, co-organised with the Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA).
This year the second Global Offshore Wind Summit in Japan 2022 (GOWS-J 2022) will be held in Akita City on November 9-10, 2022, organised by JWPA and GWEC at the Akita Prefecture.
Why Japan
Back in 2020, the Government of Japan (GOJ) declared “Carbon Neural by 2050” and launched the “Green Growth Strategy” to realise the pathway forward and positioned offshore wind power as one of the 14 industries with high-growth potential. In the same year “The Vision for Offshore Wind Power Industry” was also being formulated. Finally, in October 2021, the “Sixth Strategic Energy Plan” was approved by the Cabinet to deliver 10 GW of wind projects by 2030 (5.7 GW of offshore wind) and 30-45 GW by 2040. Offshore wind development is now underway through five port areas and 12 general sea areas, including the areas that have been awarded through Round-1 tender last December. In addition, 10 other areas are in the preparatory stage. Japan’s offshore wind power has begun to move!
The open selection requirements for offshore wind power in Japan take into consideration both the cost and with an extra emphasis on achievements in development, construction, and operation, business certainty, and regional contribution. Therefore, Japanese offshore wind developers are actively looking for international partners with a track record and knowledge of offshore wind.
Join us at GOWS-J 2022, meet local and international operators, developers and project owners, establish your thought leadership, branding and visibility in the offshore wind sector.
