About the Global Markets Theatre
The move to renewable energy is gathering momentum across the globe – not just in Europe – and in recent years wind energy has led that charge. RWE, in cooperation with GWEC, is hosting the Global Markets Theatre in Hall 3. You will be able to hear market experts talk about new and emerging markets for wind, and network with potential future markets.
Sessions in the theatre will focus on key global markets, looking at the US and other key countries in the Americas, China and the Asia-Pacific region, a look at the situation in Africa and, of course, a session on the state of the market in Europe. There will also be a look at some central challenges for the industry, as well as a lookahead to COP27.
Wind Power - the Path to Ukraine's Energy Independence and Peace
The European wind energy community is deeply saddened by the invasion of Ukraine. As an industry that has companies, partner associations and colleagues operating in Ukraine, we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. A rapid expansion of wind and other renewables is now key to increase Europe’s energy security.
Ukraine has made significant renewable energy progress in the recent years. The share of RES in national electricity generation accounted for 8,1% by the end of 2021. Total installed wind capacity reached nearly 1,7 GW and another 1 GW was expected to be commissioned until the end of 2022. But the unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine unleashed by Russian aggression has changed plans.
The Ukrainian Wind Energy Associations cordially invites you to a special workshop devoted to Ukraine. It will take place in the Global Markets Theatre, on Tuesday, 5 April, 16:15 -17:30.
Join Andriy and Galyna from the Association itself, and their guests to discuss the following:
- Andriy Konechenkov, UWEA Chairman, and Galyna Shmidt, UWEA Board Member, will present the status of the Ukrainian wind power sector before and after February 24, 2002, the day the war began.
- Peter A. Gish, Founder of Ukraine Power Resources, wind project developer and investor, will share his experience in working in Ukraine.
- There will be several video broadcasts from Ukraine with representatives of the Ukrainian wind power sector. Maris Kuniskis, General Director of DTEK Renewables, the largest renewable company in Ukraine, will talk about Ukraine’s energy sector, Alexander Podprugin, Operating Director at Elementum Energy, will focus on peculiarities of operating and developing of wind farms during hostilities, while Katheryna Knysh, Analyst at the UWEA, will speak on prospects for offshore wind development in Ukraine.
RES development is one of Ukraine’s government priorities because of its potential to enhance energy independence and security. Wind is vital for Ukraine!
The workshop will also see the launch of a joint Polish and Ukrainian Wind Energy Association initiative to support Ukrainian job seekers in finding a job in the wind sector.
