The world is facing unprecedented challenges to energy security, rising inflation and a narrowing time window to achieve climate goals and limit dangerous global heating. This headline session on Energy Day at COP27 outlines the possibilities of a paradigm shift to a renewables-based global energy system, which can enhance energy security, system resilience and prosperity for countries. It also highlights the gap between a net zero trajectory by 2030 and current progress and challenges on the ground in terms of renewable energy generation buildout.

COP27 presents an opportunity for governments around the world to take decisive action on climate change, bolster energy security and make clear and practical commitments to a clean, secure and affordable energy system based on renewable energy. What are the practical recommendations across policy, market frameworks, industrial policy and supply chain which can support acceleration of renewable energy within this decade, and what are the pitfalls to avoid?

This session arrives in a complex moment of joint energy and climate crises, and increasing tension around climate commitments between developed and developing economies. How can countries work together to accelerate their energy transformation to renewables and contribute to a cleaner global electricity mix by 2030?

A catered coffee break will be provided following this event.
