State-owned power company China Huaneng Group started over the weekend the commercial operation of its 300-MW offshore wind park located off the coast of Rudong county in Jiangsu province.

The plant has entered the commercial operation stage after concluding a 240-hour trial run in the evening of September 30, according to a company statement. This is Huaneng’s first offshore wind park, it noted.

The facility consists of 70 turbines of different sizes, including units with capacities of 4 MW, 4.2 MW and 5 MW. They will be capable of producing some 820 million kWh of electricity per year.

China ranked third in terms of installed offshore wind capacity at the end of 2016 with over 1.6 GW, according to a report by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). There are many projects in progress.
