Argentina still needs to win over RE investors: GWEC

Argentina must win over foreign investors in order to pull off its plan to quadruple renewables to around 8% of its supply in just two years, after nearly a decade of being ostracised by global financial markets, says Ramon Fiestas, Latin America head at the Global Wind Energy Council.

“The government has put in place sound planning and regulations, so the challenge for Argentina is to conquer the confidence of the financing community, since unlike Brazil it doesn't have a state bank backing its programme,” Fiestas tells Recharge.

“The domestic banking sector is not ready, so Argentina needs financing from the international community,” Fiestas says.
