The Big Issues | Sustainability
GWEC'S GLOBAL MARKETS THEATRE AT WINDENERGY HAMBURG
As a renewable energy source producing green electrons, the wind industry has long been praised for being sustainable, but nowadays expectations from external stakeholders (customers, authorities, politicians etc.) are increasing it is no longer acceptable to “just” produce clean energy.
As an industry, wind must also be truly sustainable. This means that the industry is expected to act in a socially and environmentally responsible way by keeping its carbon footprint and environmental impacts to a minimum, use the best available technology, create little to no waste and work in sustainable supply chains.
Leading wind industry organizations are consistently recognized as being among the most sustainable organizations in the world. Compliance with the UN’s 17 Sustainability Development Goals, subscribing to Science Based Targets, dealing with Scope three emissions and having dedicated sustainability teams have had a profound impact on the industry.
This session will look at the best practices among the industry from developers, manufacturers and the tertiary supply chain.
