Spotlight Market – California, USA
GWEC'S GLOBAL MARKETS THEATRE AT WINDENERGY HAMBURG
The Biden Administration’s goal of 30 gigawatts of U.S. offshore wind deployment by 2030 is a tremendous growth opportunity. While the Eastern states have so far led the way in advancing offshore wind in the USA, California is shaping up as one of the most exciting markets in the States.
California’s Governor called for aspirational target offshore wind target, and on the basis of additional studies and comment received, the Californian Energy Commission (CEC) established a preliminary planning goal of 25,000 MW (25 GW) for 2045. The CEC also set an interim of between 2-5GW to be installed by 2030. This ambition is seen as a huge boost for floating offshore wind, as California becomes one of the first markets in the world to clearly define targets that offer scale to the technology.
California will have a visiting delegation attending the Wind Energy Hamburg, and in this session, delegates will have a chance to discuss the burgeoning California market.
