The Global Wind Energy Council’s (GWEC’s) Fowind consortium is progressing with its plans to carry out offshore wind feasibility studies in the Indian states of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
In a new report – ‘Grid Integration Study for Offshore Wind Farm Development in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu’ – Fowind assesses what is needed to ensure grid integration of offshore wind, along with a preliminary evaluation of existing grid infrastructure across the two states.
The DNV GL-led report will form the basis for the upcoming offshore wind feasibility assessments being conducted by Fowind.
Fowind expects to complete a preliminary roadmap for offshore wind development in India in 2018.
GWEC secretary general Steve Sawyer said: “Offshore wind has taken dramatic steps forward in the past two years, particularly the major established market in Europe where tender prices have dropped by more than 50% in the last 18 months.”
