The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) has released its annual market statistics for global wind power, which indicated that the 2017 market remained above 50GW, with Europe, India and the offshore wind sector having record years.
According to the report, Chinese installations were down slightly – ‘only’ 19.5GW – but the rest of the world made up for most of that. Total installations in 2017 were 52,573MW, bringing the global total to 539,581MW.
Steve Sawyer, GWEC secretary general, said: “The numbers show a maturing industry, in transition to a market-based system, competing successfully with heavily subsidised incumbent technologies.
